the A900 "Blade"

The Samsung A900 "Blade" phone for Sprint

There is no question that we are living in the world of the "Super Phone".  First it seems came cameras, and then Bluetooth wireless headsets, then MP3 players, and then mega-pixel cameras, and then high speed data.  We at About Wireless still remain high on the Nextel i870 phone that we reviewed; you can see the review by clicking here.  The i870 went a step above the Nextel i850 and i860 by adding MP3 capability and also Bluetooth.  It is indeed a powerful phone and one of our all time favorites, that by the way, some of use to get our email also.

Then of course there was the RAZR by Motorola for T-Mobile that had much of the power - Bluetooth and camera in a tiny thin package often at a low price.  Nice screen, nice phone, nice Bluetooth, and a low price.

So, which is the new phone that wins the super-phone contest this month?  It has to be the A900 by Samsung for Sprint that is the new winner.  This powerful phone "puts it all together" and pushes power, class, speed and features to a new level.  The A900, called the "Blade" by some, clearly was designed to compete with the Motorola RAZR.  In fact it has the same thin dimensions and is also capable of Bluetooth wireless headsets.  However, since the Blade came along later, it was able to push technology even further.  The Blade comes with MP3, a 1.3 Megapixel camera and ...... it has EVDO!

Great! you say, but what is EVDO?  The Sprint Network is a second generation digital network that is CDMA and has more bandwidth than most other cellular phone networks.  Does this still sound like nerd talk?  Sorry, we are nerds you know.  But what this all means is that the EVDO system on the Sprint network is capable of high speed data.  Therefore, with the right option, you can use the Blade to get reasonably high speed data to your laptop.  It can also do other high speed chores .. such as watching Sprint TV.  The combination of the A900 and the high speed of the CDMA Sprint network then put it all together and deliver a power package that should impress even the most demanding of us technology watchers.
