Adding Verizon

Adding Verizon ...

At About Wireless, we have long been proud of our Sprint lineup and Nextel lineup, and we still are.  Sprint and Nextel phones and service are great choices for just about all of us within the continental US.

We are going to add another line to About Wireless, that of Verizon, a choice that we think is just going to be excellent as well.  Some will likely ask that if you are going to add another line, why Verizon?  The answer to that goes to the technical basis of both Sprint and Verizon.  When the US changed from its first cellular systems analog to digital, some like ATT and T-Mobile went to a first generation digital system, called GSM, popular in Europe and Asia.  However, Sprint and Verizon decided to leap frog their competition and went to the second generation system called CDMA.  While the first generation digital systems like GSM are narrowband by nature, CDMA is wideband.  I know this since I am a degreed engineer with 30 years experience in cellular.  Well, what does wideband do?  It means the 3G type features of television on your cell phones and or high speed internet to your laptop.

Now, yes, I am aware that ATT is now making a big deal about NOW going 3G.  Yes, they are finally trying to catch up to where Sprint and Verizon were many years ago.  Sprint and Verizon are both now talking about 4G, which again will leave competitors behind in the dust.  Sprint and Verizon have made it a point to be years ahead of their competition and intend to stay that way.  The choice between Sprint and Verizon is therefore one of confidence in each company, or happiness with its service.  However, both networks are powerful.  And both Verizon and Sprint use EVDO rev A for data, giving wonderful data speeds.  We know that for a fact since when DSL has been down at our stores, we use CDMA EVDO speeds from Sprint or Verizon, and we do quite well.

If you have questions about these services, please ask at one of our stores.  We will be glad to help.  We do believe however, that adding Verizon has added the right element to our lineup, and now we have a killer lineup to offer our great customers.
