Cell Phone Economics Most people think cell phone economics is simply getting the best price on a cell phone. Careful. While that is indeed money savings, a much more important issue is the cell phone service that you get, the plan you get, and the store that is going to help you in the future. Now, we are going to tell you a cellular phone secret that you may or may not know. None of us make money on cell phones. See? There. We have let the secret out. Quite often the customer can purchase a cellular phone for much less than the store has to pay for it. So how does a store stay in business? The answer is of course that the real issue is the service and not the phones. The service is where the cellular phone companies make their money, and also governs the amount of commission paid back to the stores. So, the service is the issue and not the phones. That is the place to watch. And by the way - do not fall for a store that says that they can get you service for less. Service is controlled by the carriers such as Sprint and not by the stores. All of the plan options are the same for all stores. So, what is different? We like to think that what is different is the care you receive and the advice that you receive when you ask for it. One of the things that we find most concerning, is how often we hear customers who overpay on their cellular phone bills. Quite often it is because they have the wrong plan, and no one is helping them get the right plan. We have seen situations as bad as customers who thought they had a $39 per month plan that are actually paying $200. Unfortunately, that is easy to do. It happens more than any of us wish. What adds to this danger is that many big-box stores hire minimum wage employees who receive little or no training. The goal is to get as many customers "moved" through the store as possible. That might be their objective, but it should not be your objective. Now, we at About Wireless are not going to tell you that we can guarantee that there will never be an issue with your bill. However, we will try and work with you upfront on what is the right plan and service for you. And if your usage changes, or we all estimated wrong, bring in a copy of your bill and let us work together to see if we can get it to a reasonable cost, and hopefully one that you can live with. Multi-Phone Families and Businesses The above information is even more important if you use your phone often or if you have multiple phones as a family or as a business. We have seen one business that in fact seemed to be paying $1000 more a month than they should for their bills. That is a lot of money. This company had an internal person who tried to watch the bill. However, the difficulty is that a person outside the cellular phone service industry may not know the options. Teaming up with the right cellular phone business can be a very important goal. Cellular Phone Service Options The number of options on a cellular phone service are many. Some service plans have free incoming plans for those who receive more calls than they make. Then there are fair and flexible plans for those who have a hard time estimating their minutes. And of course there is Nextel "Direct Connect" option that can give you free minutes for local walkie-talkie type conversations. If you talk to the same person or other people with the same service, you might be able to acquire a mobile to mobile plan that saves money for those type of calls. Then there are regional plans, cross country walkie-talkie options, and early free evenings options. Hopefully you see what we are saying. There are many options. It is best to find the best option for your usage. At About Wireless, we would love to work with you. © About Wireless, Inc. |
