Novatel Wireless USB Modem Card

the U720 Modem

USB for convenience

The Novatel Wireless U720 wireless card

"But, it's not a cell phone!" one could remark.  No, it is a modem to use with your computer for high speed data.  And it does have a phone number, it is just that the phone number is used by computers and not by human speech.

For those who want high speed data to their laptop for business travel, the high speeds of the Sprint CDMA network are the way to go.  Some of us who have used the PCMCIA cards that plug into the sides of our laptop have just loved the high speed data provided by the cards and by Sprint.  What could be better?  How about instead of providing a PCMCIA card that can plug into some laptops, how about a universal USB version that will work with any modern laptop running Windows, regardless of PCMCIA card slot size - and even with desktop computers.  Yes, that is right.  It will work even with your desktop computer - or with many of them anyway - those with a USB connection that run the latest versions of Windows.

Like previous Novatel Wireless Sprint modem cards, the card is capable of running at two speeds.  At locations (such as 222 approx airports) where EVDO signaling is available, this modem card is said to rival DSL speeds.  At place with normal Sprint service where EVDO is not yet on the towers, the modem reverts to 1XRTT, which we have heard is still 2 or 3 times the speed of dial up internet.  We have used the Novatel Wireless PCMCIA cards in the past and love them!  This one looks to be more versatile version of the same powerful card.  And it is now in stock.   A Sprint data plan is required for usage.
