MENU FORWARDS - if the menu shows numbers in perhaps blue (if you have color) and underlined, you can perhaps skip to a place in the menu by just pressing the corresponding key pad number.

MENU BACKWARD - the left arrow key that is on the asterisk key "*" will sometimes take you back to a previous screen

MENU RESET - if the menu is hung up or you need to go back far, press the red on-hook phone hang up button.

TEXT ENTRY - sometimes best if you pick a good mode, by pressing either an "abc" button or a menu to select alpha mode, or word, or numeric or symbols.  See how this works under text messaging hints.
