ADDRESS BOOK HINTS

Forward

Different Nextel Phones work differently.  This section covers menu hints that work with the Nextel phones that we have tried.

ADDRESS BOOK ON THE PHONE ITSELF

You can access the address book on the phone itself on some phones by looking for the "Contcs" button (or similarly named button) in the upper left of the keyboard.  If not there, try the menu.

Adding Contacts

  • Look for "New Contact" or similar phrasing to add contacts.
  • Note that for each new contact there are several possibilities - phones for home, mobile, work, and direct connect.  For direct connect you will need their direct connect code.  If you do not know what it is, you will likely need to ask the party
  • You might also wish to add "email" information to the contact list.  That will come in handy if you wish to send text messages or emails to others

Using the Address List

  • Note that you can go close to the name you wish by entering the first letter for the person.  If the person's name begins with "r" then click the ""7 pqrs" button three times to get to the "r" section of the address book
  • Ensure that you choose the correct choice of mobile phone or direct connect option if selecting either of those
  • When at the correct phone number, you can place the call by pressing the green off-hook button

ADDRESS BOOK ON THE WEB

There is an option available for some deluxe data service packages that allows you to store an address book on the Nextel web site.  This can be used for several features:

  • It can allow easier entry at the Nextel Site itself
  • It can serve as backup, in case you need to download the address book again
  • You can sometimes send this address book to other Nextel users to add to their own address book on their phone
  • or - you can make an even larger address book on the internet complete with addresses also that you can access from your phone as needed

To do this, you will need the data service package from Nextel, and will also need to sign it at the Nextel Site to get to your online address book.  To access the online address book from your phone, it will likely in your phone be in your menu under internet, and then "Business Tools" and then you can select the Nextel Address book option.  One of the options there will be the option to send or receive the address book from the Nextel site.

Adding to or editing the information at the Nextel site (www.nextel.com) will require you to sign in there.  If it is your first time, you will need to create a password at the Nextel site.  In our usage, the online Nextel address book worked fine.  Some items for its usage:

  • Downloading the address book may add to your current address book on your phone rather than replacing it.  If not careful, you may end up with two entries for everyone
  • The Nextel Address book seems to prefer storing address names last name first in the directory.  We have seen some instance of it changing names slightly to get to last name first even if you prefer first name first.  It might take some practice in how to work with it in order to ensure first name first storage.

Okay?

If you have reached this point then hopefully you are using menus well.  If not, and you are an About Wireless customer who had a new cell phone activation in our store, contact us and we will try and help.
