BLUETOOTH USAGE Bluetooth is the name for a specific type of short distance wireless communication. This wireless method could be used for example to connect a keyboard or mouse to a computer without using wires. For Cellular phones, however, the main usage of Bluetooth is to be able to use a wireless headset with your cellular phone making it fully hands free and wireless at the same time. BLUETOOTH CONNECTION Often the only difficult issue with a Bluetooth connection is at startup. The phone and wireless headset must be "introduced" via a wireless handshake such that they both recognize each other and only each other. This prevents interference also from other Bluetooth devices. While some brands of Bluetooth headsets differ, the following examples will show of the techniques used to connect the two. Remember, however, that in general, BOTH the cellular phone and headset wireless units must be set up to look for each other. So one must work with both items. CELLULAR PHONE CONNECTION The cellular phone is one of the two devices that must be ready to recognize the other item. Of course the other is the wireless Bluetooth headset below. We will give some examples of some headsets below. As for the phone itself, look under "Menu" to find Bluetooth settings. The Bluetooth setting might be predominant or may be under "settings" or under "connections" or both. Also of course ensure that your cellular phone is Bluetooth capable, or there will be no possibility for connection. Under menu, and perhaps also under settings and or connection, you should find a setting that asks you questions and helps you get the phone ready to look for the wireless Bluetooth unit. Now ... work with the Bluetooth unit to have it also look for the cellular phone signal. Pin Number to Bond With: often four digits of zero: "0000" Some Bluetooth headset models and how to make them ready for connection: MOTOROLA HS805 (9MOHSBLUE805) This model uses a standard AAA battery. Hold down the black button until the green light is solidly on. Then ensure that the cellular phone is looking for the headset. The headset may blink when connection is made. Remember that if the cellular phone asks for a connection pin that it likely is just "0000" (four zeros). Note that to answer calls, you can press the black button briefly on the headset - that it acts as an "off-hook" button. To shut off the headset and conserve battery life, note that you must hold down the black button for a while to turn it off. To turn it back on, you must also hold the black button for a few seconds. Note that the cellular phone might give a message to say it is connected. MOTOROLA HS850 (9MOBTHS85000) This model is a more deluxe version than the HS805. It includes not only a rechargeable battery, but makes it very easy to turn itself on and off. Simply opening the unit from its collapsed position turns it on. After this headset unit and the phone have been introduced, it is that simple to turn the bluetooth headset on and reconnect to the phone. Connecting to the cellular phone for the first time does take an additional step. First of all, with the unit collapsed and ensuring some battery charge, press the button in the middle of the blue plastic area that shows a phone handset. Press it long enough till the light comes on and stays on. Next, open the headset such that the microphone boom is extended. Then ensure that the cellular phone is looking for the headset. Remember that if the cellular phone asks for a connection pin that it likely is just "0000" (four zeros). If there is a choice on your cellular phone between ask on entry or automatic and you choose automatic, then to turn on your Bluetooth headset, merely open it and extend the boom. To shut it off, just collapse it, Sony-Ericsson HBH-660 Headset Akono (9SEBTHBH660A) Hold down the button on top for a few seconds until you see the unit power on. The display may change to "akono". The side buttons that say "+" and "-" - press both of them at the same time to initiate looking for the cellular phone. Note that you have to press both of them down at the same time for a few seconds to achieve this. When the headset is looking for the cellular phone, you might notice arrows going around in the display. Of course, you also need to ensure that the phone is looking for this headset also - via the menu and perhaps connections or settings or all of the above. Remember that if the cellular phone asks for a connection pin that it likely is just "0000" (four zeros). To shut off this Bluetooth headset, just press the main power button and hold it down for a few seconds till it shuts off.
