Some Common phone button usages on Nextel Phones
 |
|
BUTTONS WITH PHONE OPEN OR
CLOSED Nextel phones are somewhat unique in that they can
in fact be used for Direct Connect (Walkie Talkie) with the
phone closed. This is because there is a rear external
speaker on the phones and also that direct connect can be
responded to with a push to talk button on the left side of the
phone. Note that if you do not hear direct connect
conversation when using it that a common reason is just that the
external speaker is turned off. The button on the top left
turns the external speaker on and off.
The right top button can be used well with Nextel phones that
also have a front side display. In these cases it can show
the most recent calls, and then you can use the volume up/down
buttons to get to the most recent DC call that you wish.
When you have the person there and it is their DC number, you
can simply DC them with the Push to Talk button. |

| BUTTONS WITH PHONE OPEN
Remember that many of the buttons that can be used with the
phone closed still work with the phone open. The push to
talk button still works and the external speaker on and off
button still works.
The button on the upper left of the open phone at startup
will be the button for phone address book - and it is often a
"select" button later for viewing of an option.
Note that DC direct connect can often be done more silently
by finding the persons DC number in the address book and then
using the upper left button to "alert" them before using the
push to talk button. DC can also be done with the normal
speaker for better privacy when the main speaker is turned off. |

On and Off Function.
This function will vary by phone. Some earlier Nextel models -
bar phones mostly (non flip phones) have the power on and off button at
the very top of the phone. Others may locate the on and off button
differently. If the on off button is on the face with the phone
open, look for a red circle with a vertical line within it. That
can often be the symbol for phone on and off.
Okay?
If you have reached this point then hopefully you can see the common
button usages for Nextel Phones. If not, and you are an About Wireless customer who had a new
cell phone activation in our store, contact us
