TERMS DICTIONARY

BANDWIDTH

Bandwidth is an electronics wireless term, and it refers to how much frequency is to be used for a wireless transmission.  It is referred to as the difference (subtraction) of the highest frequency allowed for transmission and the lowest frequency allowed for transmission.  In the US, this allowance of bandwidth allocation is controlled by the FCC.

The more bandwidth, basically the more information can be transferred in the same unit of time.  Hence higher bandwidth means faster speeds.  When a wireless transmission service claims to be high bandwidth, or a web site claims to be high bandwidth, they are really saying that they are able to transfer large amounts of data at great speed.
