DISH ANTENNA

A dish antenna is short for the expression "parabolic dish antenna".  Such an antenna is highly directional and will concentrate receive or transmitter energy in a singular beamed direction.  Dish antennas are mostly used for point-to-point communications - meaning reception or transmission in one direction only.   One of the most common usages of dish antennas is for satellite transmission and reception.  For satellites of course, the direction is a very definite single direction and the distance very far away, so for both reasons, it makes sense to use a dish antenna.
