IDEN

iDEN, which stands for Integrated Digital Enhanced Network is a cellular system that has been pioneered by both Motorola and Nextel for Nextel customer service.  The system has many similarities to GSM cellular systems, and is therefore a TDMA time division multiple access network.  This iDEN system has also been engineered to be capable of two-way paging (DC, Direct Connect) and enhanced for data handling.

While several other cellular networks are now also trying to offer two way calling similar to Direct Connect, and also data applications, the iDEN system remains high as a pioneer in data handling.  iDEN phones from Nextel / Motorola are also often java capable, which allows for many software java applications that can be operated on the phones and the systems.  Some of these applications include not only text messaging, multimedia and email, but also GPS location and wireless credit card approval.
