PHS

PHS stands for Personal Handyphone System.  It was a cellular TDMA type system that was operational in Japan at about 1.5 GHz frequency.  The system used microcells - which were small very advanced cellular base stations - for places where Japan Cellular just needed more handling capacity.

We believe that one application for PHS was for use in Japan subways.  The Japan subway system is excellent and in places can be three levels high.  However, there also are a lot of cellular customers in the train station area.  We believe that PHS was a solution in providing service to those customers.
