WLAN

WLAN stand for Wireless Local Area Network.  One could argue that a LAN - local area network can be either configured using wires or by a wireless connection, however WLAN more directly defines the network as just wireless.

A WLAN could be anything from a household of just two computers to a larger office area of many computers connecting to a high speed internet connection.  WLANs are also used as "hotspots" in coffee shops and airport terminals for user with laptop computers and 802.11 wireless connectivity.
